School Occupational Therapist | Block Island, Rhode Island
Step into a rewarding role serving students during the 26/27 school year with a contract opportunity focused on providing exceptional occupational therapy support. Located near the tranquil shores of Block Island, this engaging position allows you to make a meaningful difference while working just two days per week, from September 8th to June 18th. You’ll primarily support PreK students, but will also interact with the broader K-12 population. Candidates with a strong background in school-based occupational therapy or seasoned COTAs ready to contribute their expertise are welcome to apply.
What we're seeking:
- Licensed Occupational Therapist or an experienced Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
- Demonstrated experience in a school-based setting, ideally with PreK and K-12 students
- Proficiency with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices
- Familiarity and comfort working with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and organization skills
- Ability to craft individualized therapy interventions tailored to student needs
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver occupational therapy assessments and interventions tailored to student goals, predominantly for PreK
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, teachers, and families to address each student’s unique needs
- Address motor, sensory, and adaptive skill challenges impacting educational participation
- Contribute to IEP development, documentation, and progress reports
- Integrate AAC technology into therapy sessions and support student communication
- Foster a positive, engaging, and supportive therapeutic environment
