Occupational Therapist (School-Based) – Full-Time | Roanoke, VA
We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) to support students in Roanoke, Virginia. This school-based Occupational Therapist role focuses on delivering pediatric therapy services to students from Pre-K through middle school, primarily within elementary settings. About the Role
This on-site Occupational Therapist position involves working with students in self-contained special education classrooms (autism, adaptive programs) as well as general education settings with special education support. You’ll collaborate with educators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure students meet their developmental and academic goals.
- Schedule: Full-time (37 hours/week), Open to part-time (2–3 days/week)
- Setting: School-based (Pre-K to Middle School, primarily elementary)
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and assessments for students
- Develop, write, and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide direct occupational therapy services in classroom settings
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families
- Attend and contribute to IEP meetings and student reviews
- Implement interventions to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, and functional independence
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with school and state guidelines
Qualifications
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) in Virginia
- Degree in Occupational Therapy (Master’s or Doctorate required)
- Experience or strong interest in school-based therapy, pediatric OT, or special education settings
- Knowledge of IEP development and IDEA regulations
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with children with autism or developmental delays
- Familiarity with sensory integration techniques and adaptive therapy strategies
- Previous school-based or pediatric clinical experience
- Ability to manage caseloads and prioritize student needs effectively
