School Occupational Therapist - Cary, North Carolina
Occupational therapists with a passion for school-based practice can find a rewarding contract opportunity providing essential services to students on the western side of Wake County. This role is ideal for professionals who have completed post-FW2 experience delivering occupational therapy in an educational setting—experience outside of graduate fieldworks is required.
Begin your assignment on a year-round track approximately thirty days from offer. You’ll have the chance to work closely with students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, documenting interventions and collaborating with IEP teams to enhance student performance in academic environments. The district uses a workload model, reevaluating needs each month to ensure balance and effective case management.
Essential qualifications:
- Valid Occupational Therapist license from the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT)
- Post-graduate OT degree; Master’s preferred
- Demonstrated experience in a professional, school-based OT role (post-fieldwork)
- NC school-based experience is preferred
- Deep knowledge of ECATS and IEP processes
- Proficiency conducting motor screenings, OT evaluations, and writing comprehensive reports
- Familiarity with Sensory Processing Measure–2 (SPM-2), Sensory Profile 2, and other school-based standardized assessments
- Strong skills in interpreting results within the school/educational context
Additional requirements:
- NPI number and NC Tracks registration (prior to start)
- DCDEE fingerprinting and Wake CPS background check
In this full-time, on-site position (typically 37.5–40 hours per week), you’ll help students develop functional skills vital for school success. Workload, anticipated site assignments, and caseload specifics will be discussed during prescreening sessions.
