Occupational Therapist School Setting in Des Plaines, IL
Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with complex needs by providing essential occupational therapy services in a dynamic school and residential setting. This full-time contract position is based onsite, with staff hours from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. You’ll work alongside a dedicated team, helping students overcome challenges related to self-harm, property destruction, elopement, and aggressive behaviors.
Bring your expertise in school-based OT to support a diverse student population, collaborating closely with educators, support staff, and families. Flex your clinical and creative problem-solving skills as you help students develop coping mechanisms, functional abilities, and greater independence in their daily routines.
Qualifications and Experience Desired:
- Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in Illinois
- Prior experience in a school-based setting preferred
- Comfort providing services to students with adverse behaviors such as self-harm, aggression, and property destruction
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
- A collaborative spirit for working within multidisciplinary teams
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative OT services tailored to IEP goals
- Assess, document, and monitor student progress
- Create adaptive strategies and interventions for behavioral, sensory, and functional needs
- Consult with teachers and residential staff to ensure cohesive support
- Participate in IEP meetings and parent communications
- Support students during transitions, crisis moments, and throughout their routines
