School Occupational Therapist - Elgin, Illinois
Step into a rewarding role providing essential occupational therapy services in a school and residential setting for students with challenging behaviors. This full-time, onsite contract opportunity runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You’ll work closely with a dedicated team to support students with adverse and aggressive behaviors, including self-harm, property destruction, elopement, and aggression. Every day, your skills and compassion will help students develop functional abilities needed for participation in daily routines and academic success.
What we’re looking for:
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois and related credentials
- Previous experience in school settings, especially with students presenting behavioral challenges
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, teachers, and residential staff
- Comfort and competence in supporting students who display complex behaviors
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills
- Commitment to fostering a positive, safe environment for all students
Key responsibilities:
- Assess students’ functional abilities and develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with educational staff
- Implement direct therapy interventions focused on improving fine motor, sensory processing, and self-regulation skills
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide input for developing appropriate goals and accommodations
- Complete thorough documentation, progress reports, and required paperwork in a timely manner
- Educate staff and caregivers on strategies for supporting students’ therapy needs throughout the school day
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
Enjoy a generous schedule, including 6 sick days, 6 personal days, two weeks off for winter break, a week off for spring break, a week off before summer school, and two weeks off before the school year begins.
