Arizona OT Licensing Requirements

To obtain an Arizona OT license, applicants must meet the state's academic requirements, complete supervised fieldwork, pass the NBCOT examination, and pay the applicable licensing fee. Arizona law prohibits practicing occupational therapy before the license is issued.

Arizona also offers a limited license pathway for individuals who have completed their OT program but have not yet taken the NBCOT exam; however, this requires appropriate supervision and issuance of the limited license before practice.

For a standard school-based position, an active Arizona OT license should be treated as the hard requirement.

School-Based Role

The OT will work with students in an educational environment and may provide services addressing:

Fine-motor development
Handwriting and written-work access
Sensory processing
Visual-motor and perceptual skills
Self-care and functional skills
Classroom participation
Assistive/adaptive equipment
Student independence and educational access

Must be appropriately licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in Arizona.
