Remote Occupational Therapist in MA
A therapeutic public day special education program serving students in grades 8–12 seeks a Virtual Occupational Therapist to provide approximately 3 hours of intervention weekly. This program supports roughly 20 students with a capacity for 30, placed out-of-district by sending local education agencies across western Massachusetts. The student population includes individuals with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and school refusal behaviors, within a trauma-informed setting emphasizing voice, choice, small classes, and robust staff support. It is important to note that the program does not manage physically explosive behaviors.
Responsibilities include delivering direct OT sessions via video with a staff member present in the student’s room, consulting with teachers and clinical staff to support sensory regulation, organization, and executive functioning, and implementing practical, transition-oriented goals. These goals focus on improving independence in organizing materials and managing assignments, sensory regulation linked to cooking activities, visual perceptual skills in academic contexts, and activities of daily living such as typing and job application completion. Translating broadly written IEP goals into engaging, relevant activities for teens—including those resistant to adult suggestions—is essential. The role also involves progress monitoring, documentation, and participation in team meetings, with coordination alongside speech services provided to one student.
Qualifications and experience sought include:
- Valid Massachusetts OT license or license eligibility
- NBCOT certification
- Experience in school-based occupational therapy, preferably with high school students
- Skilled in delivering OT services effectively via telehealth, including camera positioning, directing fine motor tasks at a distance, and engaging adolescents virtually
- Experience working with students who have emotional and behavioral challenges
The position utilizes a HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant virtual platform backed by clinical and technical support. Optional onsite touchscreen equipment is available, and a staff member is present during all sessions.
Interviews are scheduled on Thursday, November 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET, with immediate start upon credentialing clearance. Applications are encouraged from candidates ready to provide specialized telehealth OT services within this supportive educational environment.
Compensation for this position ranges from $34.74 to $64.74. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
