Remote Occupational Therapist in MA
A virtual occupational therapy role is available within a therapeutic public day special education program serving grades 8 through 12. The program supports approximately 20 students on-site, with capacity for 30, receiving placements from various districts across western Massachusetts. Students present with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, anxiety, and patterns of school refusal. The program emphasizes trauma-informed care, student voice and choice, small classes, and substantial staff support, focusing on internally directed behaviors rather than physical aggression.
This contract position involves about 3 hours of work per week predominantly focused on consultation, with two students receiving direct OT services. The initial period requires managing approximately 27 hours of compensatory services in addition to the regular weekly caseload. Hours may increase as new students enroll throughout the year. While services are delivered virtually via an HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant platform, local candidates able to provide roughly 1.5 hours of direct, on-site service are also encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting direct occupational therapy sessions over video with a staff member present in the student’s room.
- Consulting with teachers and clinical staff about sensory processing, organization, and executive functioning supports.
- Developing practical, transition-focused goals such as organizational skills, sensory regulation, visual perceptual abilities, daily living activities, and adaptation of IEP goals to engage teenagers.
- Monitoring progress, maintaining documentation, and participating in team meetings.
- Coordinating services with speech-language pathologists when applicable.
Qualifications preferred are:
- Current Massachusetts OT license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- NBCOT certification.
- Experience in school-based occupational therapy, preferably with high school students.
- Ability to effectively deliver virtual services, including camera positioning and engaging adolescent students remotely.
- Experience serving students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
Technology and support include access to the VocoVision virtual platform, optional workstation equipment at no cost, an on-site staff member for session assistance, and clinical and technical support teams.
Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, November 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET, with a start date upon completion of credentialing. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit applications promptly for consideration.
Compensation for this position ranges from $34.74 to $64.74. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
