School-Based Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) | Arlington Heights, Illinois
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students’ growth and success as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. This role focuses on maternity leave coverage, with an assignment running from August 17 (or as soon as available) until September 28, working on-site at an elementary school in a vibrant, supportive community near Arlington Heights, IL.
Your expertise will play a vital role in helping elementary students achieve their IEP goals within self-contained autism programs. You’ll work closely with special education and classroom staff to develop students' functional skills and ensure meaningful participation in school activities.
What we’re looking for:
• Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Certification by, or eligibility for certification by, the American Occupational Therapy Association Board of Registry
• Active Illinois Occupational Therapy Assistant license or eligibility
• Previous pediatric or school-based experience is preferred, but not required
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
What you’ll do:
• Provide direct occupational therapy services to eligible students according to their Individualized Education Plans
• Collaborate with special education team members, teachers, and families to support each child’s access and participation
• Help develop and implement strategies that promote functional independence and skill development
• Maintain accurate documentation of services delivered and student progress
• Provide insight and support to classroom teams within self-contained autism programs
This is a part-time contract position, with 21-28 hours per week over 3-4 days, allowing for flexibility and work-life balance.
