Job Description

A school district in Bridgeport, Connecticut is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher for a full‑time, school‑based contract. This position serves K–12 students and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative educational environment with ongoing professional and administrative support. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction and educational support to students with mild/moderate or moderate/severe disabilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Connecticut state regulations
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet individual student needs
  • Conduct assessments, collect data, and monitor progress toward IEP goals
  • Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings while ensuring procedural compliance
  • Maintain accurate documentation and student records
  • Support a structured, inclusive, and positive learning environment

Qualifications

  • Active Connecticut Special Education teaching certification required
  • Appropriate Special Education endorsement based on assignment
  • Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
  • Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field

Experience

  • Previous school‑based or special education experience preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs preferred
  • New graduates with appropriate credentials are encouraged to apply

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities
  • Strong classroom management and instructional differentiation skills
  • Commitment to supporting diverse student populations

Work Hours

  • Monday–Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Approximately 37–40 hours per week
