Job Description
A school district in Norwalk, Connecticut is seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) for a full‑time, school‑based contract. This position serves K–12 students and focuses on supporting fine motor, sensory, visual motor, and functional skills to help students access and participate successfully in the educational environment. Responsibilities
Provide occupational therapy services to students in individual and group settings
Implement therapeutic interventions to support fine motor, sensory, self‑care, and functional skills
Develop and monitor therapy goals within Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Conduct evaluations and assessments (OT role) and assist with implementation of treatment plans (COTA role)
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
Recommend adaptive equipment, classroom accommodations, and therapeutic strategies
Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and service logs
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
Support student independence and access to educational activities
Qualifications
Active Connecticut Occupational Therapist (OT) license or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license required
NBCOT certification required
Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates
Education
OT: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy or related field
COTA: Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Experience
Previous school‑based, pediatric, or clinical experience preferred
Experience working with students with developmental, sensory, physical, or behavioral needs preferred
New graduates with appropriate licensure are encouraged to apply
Skills
Strong knowledge of occupational therapy practices and interventions
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong organizational and documentation abilities
Ability to develop and implement individualized therapy strategies
Commitment to supporting diverse student populations
Work Hours
Monday–Friday
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Approximately 37–40 hours per week
