Remote School Occupational Therapist - New Mexico
Qualifications • Master’s degree or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program • Active New Mexico Occupational Therapist license issued by the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department (NMRLD) Board of Occupational Therapy • Active New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Support Provider License in Occupational Therapy (or eligibility) • NBCOT certification preferred • Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or teletherapy preferred) • Experience with IEP development, fine motor/sensory evaluations, and virtual service delivery is a plus • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills • Comfortable using teletherapy platforms, digital resources, and online therapy tools
Key Responsibilities Assessment & Intervention • Conduct virtual evaluations to assess fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, and self-help skills within the educational setting • Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy plans tailored to student needs in a remote environment • Provide direct teletherapy services focused on functional school goals and track student progress • Use data to adapt sensory, fine motor, and environmental strategies as needed
Collaboration & Support • Work closely with general and special education teachers, parents, and administrative staff to promote classroom access and student independence • Provide recommendations for virtual accommodations, adaptive equipment, and sensory support strategies • Participate actively in virtual IEP meetings, multidisciplinary evaluation teams (EDT), and 504 plan reviews
Documentation & Compliance • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of progress notes, service logs, and IEP goals • Ensure all evaluations and services strictly align with NMPED standards, district policies, and federal guidelines • Complete comprehensive evaluation summaries, eligibility documentation, and required compliance paperwork
Technology & Teletherapy Tools • Utilize virtual platforms and digital tools to deliver engaging, fine-motor and sensory-focused therapy sessions • Adapt activities, visual aids, and interventions for an effective online learning environment • Assist families and school-based teams with setting up platforms for seamless virtual sessions
Advocacy & Education • Support students in utilizing accommodations, adaptive tools, and assistive technologies • Provide guidance, training, and resources to families and educators regarding occupational development in children
