Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – School-Based
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our school-based therapy team. The COTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR) to support students' participation and success in educational environments. The position serves students from Pre-K through High School and requires collaboration with educators, parents, and related service providers to help students meet their individualized goals.
Responsibilities
• Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).
• Provide direct occupational therapy services to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Complete required documentation, service logs, progress reports, and other records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Assist with therapy activities, preparation of materials, and service delivery across school settings.
• Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and other related service providers to support students' occupational therapy needs.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the supervising OTR.
• Participate in meetings and consultations related to student services as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising OTR.
Qualifications
• Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license/certification in accordance with state regulations.
• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Experience working with school-aged children (Pre-K through High School) preferred.
• Pediatric experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of IEPs and school-based service delivery preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration with the supervising OTR and school personnel.
Requirements
• Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel between school locations.
• Ability to travel as needed; mileage reimbursement provided.
• Ability to pass all required background screenings and meet district/vendor compliance requirements.
