Position Summary
South Kitsap School District is seeking four dedicated Occupational Therapists (OTs) to provide school-based occupational therapy services to students receiving special education support. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to help students develop the functional, motor, sensory, and self-care skills necessary to access and participate in their educational environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and assessments to determine student needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans and IEP goals.
- Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services to students.
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and related service providers.
- Recommend and support the implementation of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
- Address fine motor, visual-motor, sensory processing, self-help, and functional school participation skills.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation, service logs, and progress reports.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding student accommodations and therapeutic strategies.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Washington State special education regulations, and district policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in accordance with state and federal requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet Washington State requirements for school-based Occupational Therapists, including:
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program.
- Current Washington State Occupational Therapist License issued by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Valid Washington Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate for School Occupational Therapists, or eligibility to obtain one through the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
- Knowledge of special education regulations, IDEA, and IEP processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous school-based occupational therapy experience.
- Experience working with students across a variety of disability categories.
- Knowledge of IEP development, IDEA regulations, and special education procedures.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
